Town of North Hempstead council members have committed $4.5 million in bonds for  infrastructure improvements to Manhasset’s parks, roads and water quality.

Officials said projects in the bonding include the continued revitalization of Manhasset Valley Park, which re-opened last year with new turf athletic fields, the fortification of Whitney Pond Park Pool, the removal of 500 cubic yards of sediment from Plandome Pond Park and traffic calming efforts along Plandome Road.

Council members during their March 11 meeting approved $17 million in bonds throughout the town. Officials said $6.3 million of the bonding will be reimbursed through county, state and federal grants.

“Approving bonding now will allow us to have the flexibility to borrow the necessary funds so that we have the opportunity to start work on these important projects in the late spring and summer,” North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth said. “These projects add to our already beautiful town recreational facilities and improve the quality of life for residents.”

New restrooms, a small concession area and playgrounds are planned for Manhasset Valley Park, officials said. The park reopened last year to feature two new turf athletic fields.

The town also plans to widen the intersection of Plandome Road and Manhasset Avenue and modify traffic lights accordingly.

“I am excited at the prospect of moving forward with these wonderful capital improvements that will add much-needed features to our parks and enhance safety in the  Plandome Road area,” said North Hempstead Councilwoman Kaplan, whose 4th district includes Manhasset.

Town officials said a public work session will be held within the next month to review the details of each project. A date for that meeting has not yet been scheduled.
