The Town of North Hempstead enlisted Fire Command Co., based in Long Beach, to inspect fire suppression systems in various facilities townwide and perform repairs if needed.

The three-year contract was forged on Dec. 18.

Fire suppression systems include sprinkler systems and fire extinguishers as well as other methods to weaken the spread of fire such as the use of foam or dry chemicals.

Fire Command will inspect sprinkler systems at Yes We Can Community Center in Westbury; Michael J. Tully Park, Clinton G. Martin Park, and the Department of Public Works in New Hyde Park; Manorhaven Beach Park, North Hempstead Beach Park, and Harbor Links Golf Course in Port Washington; Carle Place’s Fuschillo Park; and North Hempstead’s Department of Services for the Aging facility.

It will cost the town $195 to inspect each sprinkler system. Every five years, a functionality test is required, which will cost $1,200, as stated in the contract.

Inspections of existing fire suppression systems will be conducted at Harbor Links, Albertson Yard, the DPW repair shop in Port Washington, the DPW building, Clinton G. Martin Park, Fuschillo Park, Manorhaven Community Center, as well as the Solid Waste Management Authority in Port Washington.

The cost to inspect fire suppression systems is projected to be $1,575 per visit and visits must  be performed twice a year.

Fire Command charges $275 per bottle to refill the chemicals required for each system.
