Town celebrates Port Washington Fire Department Captain Emma Nadel

North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jennifer DeSena and Council Member Mariann Dalimonte joined with members of the Port Washington Fire Department on Jan. 12 to celebrate Captain Emma Nadel.

Captain Nadel was recently elected as Captain of the Port Washington Fire Department’s Flower Hill Hose Company #1.

This is the first time in the history of the Port Washington Fire Department that a woman has been elected to the office as Captain at any of the three fire companies that make up the Port Washington Fire Department.

Captain Nadel takes over as Commanding Officer of Flower Hill Hose Company #1 from now Ex-Captain Joseph LoRe, who recently completed his 3-year term as Captain.

The Port Washington Fire Department is one of the largest and busiest volunteer fire departments in New York State and covers an 11-square mile area. The Flower Hill Hose Company was established in 1905 after the arrival of the Long Island Rail Road and is located at 12 Haven Ave., Port Washington.
