Town backs small biz day

The Island Now

The Town of North Hempstead has announced its support for Small Business Saturday on Nov. 26 and are encouraging residents to shift some of their spending this holiday season to support local small businesses.
The town has a joint partnership with Women Impacting Public Policy and the Small Business Saturday Coalition, according to a press release from the Town of North Hempstead.
In 2015, 551 city, county and town officials joined together to support Small Business Saturday, including the Town of North Hempstead.
“Grab a friend and explore your local downtown stores this holiday season. Find something special and make that purchase because shopping at small businesses in your home town represents an investment in your local community,” Executive Director of the Town’s Business and Development Corporation Kim Kaiman said.
Small Business Saturday is an effort to drive consumers to shop at local independently owned businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This year, North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth, the town board and the town’s BTDC are taking the initiative a step further by encouraging residents to consider spending around 10 percent of their holiday shopping at local businesses.
“The holiday season is the ideal time to support our local business owners and local economy,” Bosworth said.  “Making a small shift in your spending can make a big difference to our businesses.”
