The GU 12 New Hyde Park Lady Lions came out on top in a 1-0 battle with the Cold Spring Harbor Pride.

The winning goal was put in by Brittany Battista off a crossing pass from Victoria Gaspe.

The Lions’ defense, led by Emma Nidermaier with support from Caitlyn Cloonan, Frances Carratelli and Kayla Fitzpatrick, was stout and shut down the Pride’s offense.

Goalkeeping was outstanding with Stephanie Rinaudo and Ciara Jennings splitting the duties and pitching a shutout.

The Lions received outstanding midfield play from Sara Wheeler, Sally Solomon, Samantha Katsanos and Faith Balletta. Isabelle Brenes played tenaciously the entire game alternating between defense and midfield to attack the Pride’s spirit.

The offense was lead by Molli Spencer – who was coming off a multiple goal performance in Philadelphia and leads the team in shots on goal.

The Lady Lions will be hosting tryouts for the “to be” GU 13 team on June 10, 15, and 17 at 7:30 at the Herricks Community Center in New Hyde Park.

The Lions are a Division 2 professionally trained team. For further information please contact Anthony Battista (516 739 0884).
