Longines Masters of New York

The Longines Masters Series rides into New York this weekend, the grand finale of the international, equestrian series that captures all of the glitz and glamour from its origin city of Paris.  The weekend highlights include The Longines Speed Challenge on Friday night, The Riders Masters Cup, pitting Team USA vs. Team Europe, on Saturday night, and The Longines Grand Prix, awarding the best in show jumping on Sunday.

2 The Butterfly Ball

Saturday, April 28 at 7 p.m.

The Butterfly Ball takes flight this evening with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, a farm-to-table chefs’ dinner, and dessert and dancing to a live band, along with a live, exotic butterfly exhibit — all to benefit and enhance the preserve’s beautiful landscape with new features and programs for everyone to enjoy.

Buddy Guy

Saturday, April 28 at 8 p.m.

American blues guitarist and singer Buddy Guy, who influenced eminent guitarists including Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jeff Beck and John Mayer, will perform at this special, one-night concert event.

Word Up: Long Island LitFest 2018

Sunday, April 29 at 10 a.m. 

Held once a year, Long Island LitFest is a unique day of workshops, author readings, and book signings where visitors can meet well-known authors, purchase their books at a pop-up bookstore, and have them signed. The authors participating this year include Annabelle Gurwitch, David Denby, Susan Rieger, Meg Wolitzer, Steve Israel, Tom Clavin, Alyson Richman and Alan Zweibel, with former Friars Club historian Barry Dougherty serving as emcee.

5 Martha Graham Dance Company

Sunday, April 29 at 7 p.m.

A night of Graham classics and contemporary works from one of the most celebrated modern dance companies in America features a program that includes Ekstasis, Panorama, Histoire (by Lucinda Childs), Embattled Garden, and Mosaic (by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui).

2018 Greek Film Expo

Sunday, April 29 through Thursday, May 3 (see website for a schedule of screenings and times)

The Hellenic Film Society kicks off the 2018 Greek Film Expo at the Directors Guild Theater in Manhattan on Friday, April 27, with the festival hosting subsequent screenings at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria and Bow Tie Cinema in Manhasset.  Two of the featured films include “Swing Away,” about a troubled golfer who travels to the island of Rhodes where she reconnects with her Greek roots, and “Worlds Apart,” three Greek love stories set in times of social and economic turmoil.

SiriusXM Presents: Todd Rundgren’s Utopia

In celebration of their reunion tour, Todd Rundgren, Kasim Sulton, and Willie Wilcox will perform from The Road to Utopia: The Complete Recordings (1974-82), a collection that brings their seven classic albums to life with evergreen hits like “Hello It’s Me” and “I Saw The Light.”
