Family Fun Night — Strummin’ and Drummin’

Friday, Aug. 31, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Bring a blanket and picnic dinner for a night of free family fun that will include lots of crowd interaction, loads of instruments, hands-on drumming, guitar accompanied sing-a-longs from around the world, and adventurous stories — all done with the perfect combination of education and entertainment.  No reservations required.

Kids’ Workshop: Field Goal Game

Saturday, Sept. 1, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Kids ages 5 through 12 can kickoff football season with a portable, action-packed field goal game. In this free workshop, children will build a game to test their aim by flicking or drop-plucking the ball through the goalposts to score a field goal worth three points. Once the game is built, kids can customize it with paint and stickers. All children must be accompanied by a parent or adult at all times. Registration is required.

Listen Up! Story Book Stroll — “The Tiny Seed” by Eric Carle

Saturday, Sept. 1, 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Children ages 8 and up can enjoy a stroll through Old Westbury Gardens while enjoying author and illustrator Eric Carle’s classic story of the life cycle of a flower told through the adventures of a tiny seed. The event is free with admission.

Lee’s Layered Lanes

Saturday, Sept. 1, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Children ages 3 and up can express themselves with lines, color and texture.  Here they will create intricate drawings while getting to know Lee Krasner, abstract artist and wife of Jackson Pollock. Join this event as participants explore the “controlled chaos” Krasner creates on her canvases. The event is free with museum admission.

Arthur Visits Manhasset Story Time: “Arthur’s Family Vacation” by Marc Brown

Saturday, Sept. 8, 12 p.m.

Kids can join this free story time and meet Arthur, the lovable aardvark.  They will read stories of his adventures with his family and friends. Visitors can take a photograph with Arthur, too, so don’t forget to bring a camera.
