Reader’s Write: Tea Party a small minority funded by fat cats

The Island Now

Poor Dr. Morris.

He is the most determined misuser of the amendment to our Constitution that guarantees us the right to free speech. He goes on at great and painful length about his ideas, expressing them often at the expense of accuracy and suggestions.

Fortunately he truly is in the minority in our compassionate nation. Do not be fooled.

He does not represent the majority. But the problem is that we are not sufficiently critical.

We are being misled by those who do not have one good idea to put forth to solve our diverse serious problems. He belongs to a cult with lots of money to throw at propaganda.

How many of us know that, for example, the multibillionaire Koch Brothers, have, by means of their organization, Americans for Prosperity, thrown $20 million at disseminating falsehoods about Obamacare?

How much good could that have done, instead of poisoning many minds? And maybe you have begun to suspect that Dr. M. gets his script from their highly paid public relations firm.

This is only one example of the evil that those who really don’t care about anybody but themselves can support.

Better minds than our vociferous dentist have been in favor of universal health-care coverage.

Does he even know that Theodore Roosevelt had proposed such an idea, and that other presidents perceived its benefits?

And does he know that our health-care system threatened to overwhelm our economy?

Does he know that the UN World Health Organization standards ranked the quality and results of our system halfway down the list of nations and placed us next to Slovenia?

Will he ever admit that we are the only industrialized nation in the world without universal coverage?

Those who wish to destroy Obamacare will never admit to themselves that they will not succeed. Better for them to accept that things will improve if our lawmakers will accept the challenge.

After all, our lawmakers forced Obama to accept provisions that we did not need.

Why? Because so many of our Congress were heavily lobbied by the infamous profiteering private insurers and the pharmaceutical companies. They should be ashamed!

But the people want this law and they will not allow the schemers to kill it.
