Reader’s Write: Tax issues should be discussed in public

The Island Now

Do you want to know why the young are leaving Long Island?

They are leaving because they cannot afford the heavy tax burden placed on them as homeowners. Our elected officials are not solving our tax problems but merely shifting the burden from all to a few.

Every time public officials grant tax exemptions they obtain a vote but burden everyone else. I am not against seniors, veterans and the like I am simply stating why do the young have to pay for these additional benefits.

Public officials should be finding ways to help all taxpayers not just a few.

Mineola School Board President Barnett should be discussing how he can help to relieve all taxpayers of the heavy school tax burden rather then just playing the shell game. He should not be having “internal discussions’ on this important issue but should be discussing it at regularly schedule meetings.

Let’s solve the tax burden for all taxpayers at open meetings and not at special meetings held at a PTA dinner like the Herricks School Board!!
