A swastika was scratched into the dirt on the softball field at the Solomon Schechter Day School in Williston Park sometime last weekend, according to the Nassau County Police Department Third Precinct.

The swastika, approximately 3-feet in size, was outlined inside a circle on the field, accompanied by a profanity. It was discovered by officials at the Schechter School on Monday, Oct. 10.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to the police. It is supposed that the antisemitic graffiti was scrawled on the school grounds sometime between Friday, Oct. 7 and Sunday, Oct. 9.

The Solomon Schechter Day School started leasing what had been the Cross Street School from the Mineola School District last month.

Officials at the Schechter School could not be reached for comment.

Loss of access to the ballfields for the Williston Park Little League and local CYO teams was an issue raised by Williston Park residents when the Mineola School Board revealed its intention to sign a five-year lease for the school facility with Solomon Schechter.

The leasing of the school is part of the district’s plans to consolidate facilities in the district.
