It was a night of celebration when the New Hyde Park-Garden City Park Board of Education met for its October meeting at Manor Oaks School.

Students from all four of the district’s schools – Garden City Park, Hillside, Manor Oaks and New Hyde Park Road – put on unique and creative performances for the Board in honor of New York State School Boards Association’s School Board Recognition Week, which runs from Oct. 22-28 this year. The evening began with students from Garden City Park, who read a nice tribute to the trustees and described the Board’s actions as a recipe for success. It continued with students from Hillside, whose presentation was centered on their recent reading of Peter Reynolds’ book, “The Dot,” which tells the story of a student whose teacher challenges her to “make a mark” and see where it takes her. The children thanked the board for connecting many dots for them in the way of technology and other educational initiatives.

Manor Oaks students were next. The group gifted the board with small fishbowls which tied into the school’s character education theme, “We at Manor Oaks Are a School of Fish That Swim Together,” while New Hyde Park Road students read positive attributes about the Board using the word “mustang,” their school’s mascot.

The district students, Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Morrison and members of the district’s Interschool Council of PTAs also presented the board with small tokens of appreciation to thank them for their dedicated service to the students and community.
