The Island Now

The New Hyde Park Boys U11 Stormcats defeated the competition, 3-2, in two closely matched games this weekend.

On Friday night, the Stormcats played the Auburndale Warriors at Ft. Totten field in Bayside.  Colin Coope, James Gensch and Luke Notine each scored a goal, bringing the score to 3-0.

With only one substitute, the exhausted players gave up two quick goals towards the end of the game, but the defensive team of Wafiq Rakib, Brendan Cooper, Daniel Garcia, Michael Windischmann and Joseph Vieni, along with the superb reflexes of Ryan Kunak in goal, helped the Stormcats hold on for the win.

On Saturday afternoon, the Stormcats faced off against Rockville Centre Galaxy. Once again, the Stormcats won by a score of 3-2 with only one substitute.

James Asmus was able to capitalize on a series of breakaway plays to score two goals, and Colin scored the third on a beautiful assist by Wafiq.

Also showing their skills was Dino Vidaich and James G. up front with the help of Michael at midfield and Ryan Oommen, Brendan, Joe and Daniel on defense.  Brendan and Joe did a great job of defending the goal in the absence of the team’s primary goalie.

The two wins place the Stormcats, coached by Alan Cooper, Mark Wasserman and Ken Gensch, in a tie for first place in their division.
