Street Fair promises to be as big an event as it was last year when an estimated 22,000 people attended.
This year’s fair will be held on Saturday, Sept. 15 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Jericho Turnpike between New Hyde Park Road and Covert Ave.
More than 225 vendors will have tables set up selling a variety of popular items, and featured events will include Islander ice hockey display, rides, games, a karate demonstration, demonstration by the NHP Fire Deparment, and food court featuring foods from local restaurants.
An antique car show by NY AutoFest will be featured for the third consecutive year, with an award presented by New Hyde Park Mayor Daniel Petruccio to the best car. This will be the third year that AutoFest has participated in the fair, which they expect to grow bigger each year.
An estimated 100 cars are expected to be at the fair, including a funny car, the 1989 ‘Batmobile’ used in the Tim Burton film Batman, and a variety of hot rods, race cars, muscle cars and classics.
The New Hyde Park Fire Department will set up a demonstration area across Jericho from the Village Hall.
A special ceremony will also be held to recognize the New Hyde Park Little League girls softball team for their participation in the Little League Softball World Series this year in a ceremony in front of Village Hall.
The New York Islanders hockey team will have a location set up near Lakeville Road.
Attractions at the fair include free raffles, gifts and cartoon characters. Local merchants will be participating with sidewalk booths and a variety of outside vendors will be selling their wares.
Restaurants at the fair will include Umbertos, Ginos, The Sunday Palace, Park Deli and the Walk Street Tavern, which will hold a barbecue in front of their building.
The New Hyde Park Gladiator Club, an alumni organization of New Hyde Park Memorial High School, which raises money to benefit children with medical problems, will be putting on a large barbeque as well.
The Sunday Palace will also have their homemade chocolate available for everyone to taste.
Non-profit organizations will also be set up at the fair, including the Colette Coyne Melanoma Awareness Campaign.
