Silverstein practices 3D printing

The Island Now

Silverstein Hebrew Academy students recently began a three-week practicum learning about 3D printing, with the culmination being the 3D printing of self-designed gliders. As part of this STEM-based learning module, students previously learned how to use Tinkercad, a browser-based 3D design and modeling tool, to design their gliders.

At this hands-on learning experience, students also became versed in the physics of why things fly and how wings work.  Armed with this knowledge, students are designing wings for their rubber band gliders, and are using Tinkercad to create these wings with accurate and specific dimensions.

The Silverstein Hebrew Academy is committed to creating learning experiences that engage and inspire its students. Providing context and interactive learning activities, like the glider creation and 3D printing exercise, helps ensure students are active and motivated participants in their education.

By introducing STEM-based curriculum at a young age, students gain a better grasp of the subject matter, and are better prepared to succeed in school as they move upward into middle school, high school and beyond.
