Show to raise funds for Folk Music Society

The Island Now

Bob Westcott, a Long Island-based singer-songwriter and guitarist, hosts an annual benefit concert for the Folk Music Society of Huntington that is timed to coincide with the holidays.

Slated for Saturday, Jan. 2, at 8 p.m., at the Congregational Church of Huntington at  30 Washington Drive in Centerport, Westcott’s New Year’s Gala will feature performances by LI artists Acoustic Apple, Counterclockwise Ensemble and Josh Joffen.

Tickets are $20 ($15 for FMSH members) and may be purchased in advance online at www.fmsh.org, using a credit card or at the door (cash and checks only).

There will not be an open mic preceding the concert. For more information, visit the website or call 631-425-2925.

Acoustic Apple is a folk duo comprised of Stephen Angliss and Gary Schoenberger, whose wide-ranging repertoire includes an appealing blend of traditional, well-known, and contemporary folk, bluegrass, Americana and roots-rock material penned by other artists.

Counterclockwise Ensemble is a contemporary chamber music quintet that performs a mix of original classical crossover music and arrangements of popular songs — combining the intimacy and instrumentation of chamber music with the energy and vitality of a rock concert.

Josh Joffen is a two-time winner of the prestigious Kerrville New Folk Competition, who performs original songs that are, by turns, rousing, funny, poetic and insightful, while blending modern and traditional folk and jazz influences with a rich palette of guitar voicings and tunings.

Now in its 47th year, the Folk Music Society of Huntington (www.fmsh.org) presents two monthly concert series, a monthly folk jam and an annual folk festival in conjunction with the Huntington Arts Council.
