Shelter Rock Jewish Center celebrates Shabbat with music

Shelter Rock Jewish Center will hold a Musical Shabbat Celebration on Shabbat Shirah, which begins Friday evening and continues Saturday morning, Jan. 26 and 27, led by Rabbi Martin S. Cohen and Hazzan Larry Goller.

The evening service begins at 6 p.m. Guest singing group, Friends of Zamir, will enhance the service and the dinner to follow.

Dinner reservations are required with advance payment of $36 for adults, $12 for children under age 13. Contact the Office at 516-741-4305, ext. 10.

The Shabbat morning service begins at 9 a.m. scholar-in-residence Marsha Bryan Edelman, Adjunct Professor of Music at the Jewish Theological Seminary, will speak on the topic “The Evolution of Tradition: How Music Inspires Spirituality.”

At the Kiddush, a light lunch that follows services, Edelman and Friends of Zamir will present “The World of Jewish Music.”
