Senator Kaplan earns a perfect score on state’s environmental scorecard

EPL/Environmental Advocates released its annual State Environmental Scorecard, which examines records of voting and bill sponsorships in each house of the legislature on key environmental bills addressing issues of clean energy, public health, transportation, and more. Senator Anna M. Kaplan (D-Great Neck) earned a perfect score on the 2019 scorecard for her record during what the group called “the greatest environmental session in a generation.”

“I have consistently fought to protect our environment, keeping our beaches clean and our drinking water safe, and I’m proud to have sponsored and delivered the strongest environmental protections in the history of New York State,” said Senator Anna M. Kaplan. “I’m grateful for the hard work and activism by EPL/Environmental Advocates to make these historic achievements possible, and I am grateful for their recognition of my efforts as a fierce defender of our environment.”

This year, the legislature had the best session for the environment in living memory, including two bold nation-leading policies on climate and transportation, a ban on offshore drilling, and bans on the use of dangerous carcinogens in children’s toys and food packaging.

EPL/Environmental Advocates was formed in 1969 with the goal of advancing environmental protections and encouraging public participation in environmental policy discussions. The 2019 Environmental Scorecard is a guide to the Environmental records of New York State Lawmakers. The scorecard provides an overview of the 2019 Legislative session along with compressive scores on the environmental votes of New York Lawmakers.
