Selichot services to be held jointly with Temple Jude, Temple Tikvah

Selichot services which mark the beginning of the High Holidays in Jewish tradition will be held jointly by Temple Judea and Temple Tikvah on Saturday evening, Sept. 1, starting at 8:00 pm.

Selichot, the Hebrew word for “penitential prayers”, is a time of soul-searching and reflection to prepare oneself for the magnitude of the Days of Awe.

It is a day of looking inward and seeing the possibilities of our lives and those of others who are in our sphere. It is a time for introspection and discovering ways that we can improve our lives and to be more cognizant of others.

This year, Temple Judea of Manhasset, partnering with Temple Tikvah of New Hyde Park, will be holding Selichot services on Saturday evening, Sept. 1,

The program starts at 8 pm.with a collation and discussion with Irving Roth who is the Director of the Temple Judea Holocaust Resource Center.

Irving, a Holocaust survivor will speak on “Learning from Our Past to Create a Better Future”.

At 9:00 pm the Selichot service begins.

Rabbi Todd Chizner and Student –Cantor Mariel Guarrera-Ashkenazy of Temple Judea, and Rabbi Randy Sheinberg and Cantor Guy Bonne of Temple Tikvah will be officiating.

The entire program will take place at Temple Tikvah, 3315 Hillside Ave. in New Hyde Park. All are invited.
