Reader’s Write: Seeking a full term on Mineola school board

The Island Now

My name is Nicole Matzer, and I will be submitting my petition to run for trustee of the Mineola U.F.S.D. Board of Education.

Through the 2013/2014 school year, as an appointed trustee, I’ve had the opportunity to see and be a part of what the position entails.

I’ve witnessed that the wonderful things that happen within our district, happen because of the hard work and tough decisions of many people. It’s been more than I expected, but not more than I can handle.

I would be honored to continue to be part of that process. I strongly support this district, which continues to be fiscally responsible.

My goal is to assist the board and district in continuing to maintain and expand our academic and extracurricular programs while keeping us within our tax cap.

My husband and I are raising our two children in this wonderful community. We have a son who is currently in seventh grade and a daughter in third.

I have had the privilege of being able to volunteer my time within the district for the last 10 years. I began volunteering as a class parent. I served as PTO President of The Willis Avenue School for two years. I then went on to become president of the District Council of PTA’s for our district.

By doing so, I have met many wonderful students and families. I want to continue working for the children of this district. They are our future. With your support on May 20th, I will continue in fulfilling these duties to help our students reach their goals.
