Searingtown 2nd graders attend workshops

The Island Now

Searingtown’s second-graders have been busy learning, socializing, and adjusting to the routines of their new classes during the first month of the school year.

Fundations, Columbia University Teachers College Reading and Writing Workshops, enVisionMATH Common Core and Math Investigations in Number, Data, and Space, Designing Mixtures in Science, Health, and Social Studies have filled the students’ days.

Students were recently able to participate in a live webcast with author Kevin Henkes. September’s monthly Character Education “SearReads” book selection, “The Dot” by Peter Reynolds, emphasized the importance of bravery, creativity, and self-expression.

Thanks to the generosity of Searingtown’s PTA, every student was given a brand new Searingtown School folder containing a fabulous T-shirt and pencil.

Third grade beginning Orchestra students are off to a great start with their new instruments. They are working on how to hold their instruments correctly with good posture. Third graders have learned the parts of their instruments and how to care for them. The students have learned how to pluck the strings using pizzicato and soon will be adding the left hand fingers to create new notes.
