Schreiber Theatre Company presents ‘Chicago: High School Edition’

Port Washington Union Free School District’s Schreiber Theatre Company will present “Chicago: High School Edition.”

Opening night will take place in the Schreiber High School auditorium on Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. with additional performances to follow on March 1 and 2 at 7:30 p.m., and March 3 at 2 p.m.

Set in the roaring twenties, the award-winning musical by Kander & Ebb, Chicago has played on Broadway for over 6,300 performances since it opened in 1996, when it won six Tony awards, including Best Revival of a Musical. The original production, written, directed and choreographed by the legendary Bob Fosse, opened in June of 1975 and was nominated for nine Tony awards.

Billed as a musical vaudeville, ‘Chicago: High School Edition’, tells the story of chorus girl Roxie Hart, who finds herself on Murderer’s Row in the Cook County Jail after shooting her faithless lover, Fred. Smooth-talking attorney Billy Flynn agrees to take on Roxie’s case and manipulates the Chicago press to make Roxie a celebrity. Roxie and another “Merry Murderess,” Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the American Dream— fame, fortune, and acquittal.

With over 30 students playing in the orchestra and running the backstage and technical crew, this production has brought the Schreiber High School community together.

The production team for Chicago: High School Edition, is led by director Lauren Foster-Holzer, with vocal music direction by Ryan Occena, choreography by Floryn Glass and Jessica Wontropski, orchestra direction by Anthony Pinelli, Jr., and is produced by Christine Nelson.

Tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 for students, and complimentary for senior citizens. Tickets can be purchased at the box office beginning one hour before the show.
