Just six months after opening as Salumeria Pomodoro, the owners of the restaurant along Old Northern Boulevard in the Village of Roslyn, closed its doors last Tuesday.
The restaurant is owned by the Huntington Station-based Reststar Inc., which owns several other restaurants across Long Island including La P’tite Framboise in Port Washington.
Jason Machado, one of Reststar’s partners, confirmed the closure to Newsday last Tuesday. Machado said he and his partners “have not yet decided whether to hold on to the space for a future restaurant.”
There were no signs on the restaurant’s front door Tuesday morning,
Salumeria Pomodoro opened in December at 1362 Old Northern Blvd. where Citron Bistro, a French bistro also owned by Restar, was located.
Machado, told Newsday in October that “Citron had run its course. It wasn’t able to keep up with the changing atmosphere in Roslyn and we thought an Italian restaurant would be in a better position to compete.”
When the new restaurant opened in December, it offered in house-cured sausage and imported prosciutto and cheeses, as well as homemade pasta.
Restar hired John Kaunas, who had worked in Manhattan and Chicago, as head chef.
When Newsday reviewed the restaurant in February, the newspaper awarded it a one and half star out of five.
Efforts to reach Machado and Restar officials were unavailing.
Restar also operates restaurants in Huntington, Plainview and around New York City.
