Roslyn High School is being honored as a Blue Star School for the 2012-2013 academic year by WISE, Working In Support of Education. The Blue Star Banner award will be presented at the annual MoneyPower Conference for Financial Literacy in New York City on Nov. 5.

To attain Blue Star status, a school must achieve a 75 percent passing rate on the WISE Financial Literacy Certification Test and have either a majority of students in a given grade level take the test or have the students who took it achieve an average score of 80 percent or higher. Students learn about personal finances during the process and are given the tools they need to become financially capable young adults.

The annual Roslyn High School Homecoming celebration will take place on Saturday, Sept. 28. The homecoming parade will begin at 11:30 a.m. in front of Roslyn High School. The parade route will go through the Village of Roslyn and finish at the high school. The Roslyn fire departments, students, staff, parents, clubs and teams will be participating in the parade.

Principal Scott Andrews encourages the community to carry their enthusiasm and spirit from the parade into the football game scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and cheer on the Roslyn Bulldogs against LI Lutheran. The Marching Bulldogs, Roslyn High School’s marching band, will perform during halftime.

There will be a meeting of the Roslyn Public Schools Board of Education on Thursday, Oct. 3 as the board will continue its deliberations about a bond referendum for capital projects. The board welcomes the input of residents on this very important undertaking. The meeting will be at 8 p.m. in Roslyn High School.
