Two school districts serving the Roslyn area have announced plans for reopening schools in the fall that address the effects and potential spread of the coronavirus.
ROSLYN PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Parents of elementary-age students who attend the Heights School, East Hills School or Harbor Hill School will be able to choose between their child attending classes in person five days a week, having a fully remote schedule or a hybrid of the two.
As for parents whose children are attending Roslyn Middle School and Roslyn High School, they will have a choice of a fully remote schedule or a hybrid plan.
Students in kindergarten through 10th grade will receive a Google Chromebook from the district, while students in grades 11 and 12 will receive iPads. Families who need access to high-speed internet will be provided with wireless hot spots.
NORTH SHORE SCHOOL DISTRICT
Superintendent of Schools Peter Giarrizzo has announced that he will recommend to the school board that the first day of classes be pushed back from Tuesday, Sept. 8, to Sept. 10.
“Sept. 10 and 11 will be half days for elementary students only, Middle School and High School students will have full days,” Giarrizzo said in a letter published on the school’s website. “Pending approval, Sept. 8 and 9 will be utilized as days of on-site professional development for our faculty, staff, and administration. The plan is that if we go a touch slower than we had initially anticipated, we can ultimately move faster.”

As for parents whose children are attending North Shore Middle School and North Shore High School, they will have a choice of a fully remote schedule or a hybrid plan. The two schools will also not be employing lockers for sanitary reasons.
