Readers Write: We need Roslyn Representation in Flower Hill

The Island Now

As a Roslyn resident of Flower Hill for almost 25 years, I am very concerned that Kate Hirsch has not chosen anyone from Roslyn to run on her Liberty Party ticket.

Hirsch lives in Port Washington, and her Trustee candidates Diane Turner and Jeffrey Greilsheimer both live in Manhasset, whereas Jay Silverman lives in Port Washington.

Historically as long as I have lived here, the make-up of Flower Hill’s Board of Trustees has been evenly balanced with at least 2 members from each of the areas that make up our village. This well-thought idea ensures that all residents of Flower Hill are represented fairly since each of our three areas has its own unique character and issues. Someone living in Port Washington or Manhasset does not know our streets and traffic issues well, nor do they have any incentive in representing the village with the Roslyn Fire District, Water District or our schools.

What happens in one part of the village might not affect other portions.  So, by not having equitable representation on the Board of Trustees, Roslyn residents might not receive everything that they would be entitled to regarding new projects like road paving, traffic calming, etc.

It is my recommendation that Flower Hill residents vote for Roslyn resident Randall Rosenbaum and the rest of the Flower Hill Party since they uphold the tradition of equal and fair representation.
