Readers Write: Vote for Greg LiCalzi Jr. for Munsey Park Trustee on March 18

The Island Now

Some might say I have no right to endorse a candidate for whom I cannot cast a vote. However, Manhasset contains six villages, all of whose Mayors and Trustees impact our overall town by their leadership, their ideas, and their actions. They affect those who cannot vote in their elections.

Greg LiCalzi, Jr. will, hopefully, become one such Trustee in Munsey Park and I am proud to say that I know him as a supporter of the Manhasset community and those who are important to us – our children and those who served and are serving our nation. I met Greg a few years ago when he decided to settle here with his family. He was searching for ways to contribute to the good efforts he observed in different community organizations when our paths crossed.

Since that time, I have witnessed his leadership, charisma, administrative skills, empathy, generosity, and sincere desire to make a positive difference in multiple areas. Greg brings his financial skills to the position of Trustee. He holds an MBA and several Financial Industry Regulatory Authority certifications. His educational accomplishments and corporate experience will be the perfect basis for the day to day issues that confront the Village. His financial background will be beneficial in drafting an annual budget that is under the New York State Tax cap while providing sufficient funding for all Village expenditures. His management expertise will help in the development of a plan for repaving Village roads, the largest single Village expense.

Greg brings enthusiasm to everything he does and an ability to gather people together for good. What a welcome quality! His efforts revived a forgotten Memorial Day tradition recognizing George Raymond Waldmann, for whom Waldmann Park on Park Avenue in Munsey Park was named, and other veterans from Munsey Park whose lives were lost in service to our country. The ceremony is now an annual Memorial Day event.

Greg turned tragedy into good works when he founded the Ace in the Hole Foundation to honor the sacrifice of his twin brother, First Lieutenant Michael LiCalzi USMC. He serves with a very hands-on style as President of the organization which supports the 2nd Tank Battalion of the Marines, hospitalized, struggling and homeless veterans, and disabled or disadvantaged individuals.

Greg gives generously of his time and talents and has served on the Boards of the Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County, the National Foundation for Ichthyosis & Related Skin Types, Inc. and the Greater New York Chapter of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America. He has been a successful fundraiser for the United Veterans Beacon House which aids struggling and homeless veterans.

Greg is committed to the development and education of our youth. Through annual support of the Empire Girls State program for young women completing junior year in high school, he fosters the self-confidence of participants as they increase their knowledge of the functions of local and state governments to enable them to become informed voters and involved citizens.

If I could, I would, but I can’t, so you must… vote for Greg LiCalzi, Jr. for the position of Munsey Park Trustee on Wednesday, March 18. When you ask what type of leader Greg will be for Munsey Park, just look at the type of man Greg has proven to be, and you will have your answer. Remember, as we have seen in some recent elections, every vote counts. Please let yours be counted for Greg LiCalzi, Jr.
