Readers Write: Tickets, creativity needed in Plaza

The Island Now

Muriel Pfeiffer has a few good suggestions.
A ‘ticket producer’ to monitor all the illegal actions of the store employees. A few tickets and they will obey.
While they are there to give the employees of Shop Delight their tickets (citations) they can also give the trucks tickets for double parking.
If a local sees that it is not being done they can report that police officer anonymously to 311.
Only neighborhood aggressive cooperation will solve the problems.
Please give the Shop Delight market permission to occupy more storefronts. It would be a great idea. More occupied stores.
Even let them build a second story for offices.
Then watch what follows:
Force them to help fund parking across the street. A triple decker, with the cooperation of the LIRR, to allow a garage to cross the tracks and have access from both north and south directions, one an entrance and the other an exit.
For short term parking only for 2/3 of the spots.
Delivery to the store from the rear only, if a designated front parking spot is abused.
Ticketing is the only answer.
USPS employees should be required to adhere to the same conditions for the benefit of the community.
Additional ‘over the tracks’ parking should be considered to help alleviate the parking problems of the station area.
That would help the local businesses who will otherwise decline in numbers if more people will refuse to shop in Great Neck (like me).
