Readers Write: The best Pride in Port yet

The Island Now

have helped organize the Pride in Port events for over 25 years now.

And every year, all of the schools and families, businesses, organizations, our police and firefighters and the committee members have done an amazing job of making the event so wonderful.

I think this year was the best Pride in Port we’ve ever had. It was so heartwarming to see so many parents marching enthusiastically beside their children with the schools. And, seeing some of the Port Washington Fire Department volunteers holding their toddlers as they marched down Main Street brought tears to my eyes.

Then there’s the Police Department, who also serve on our committee and ensure the streets and marchers are safe.

The schools’ participation remains really strong every year. The School District personnel volunteer their time to help make so many of the day’s events so great.

And the school floats were all terrific, especially Sousa’s that looked like a bandleader and even played Sousa march music!

Special thanks to all of the restaurants that donate so much delicious food served during the dinner dance.

Also, thanks to a dear friend and very generous man, Fred Falconer. He was very deservingly this year’s parade grand marshal, but also donated centerpieces for the senior luncheon and for the dinner dance. And, thanks to my co-chair, Fred Pollack, for helping me organize the day’s activities.

Finally, we couldn’t conduct this event at all if it wasn’t for the exceptional support from the Town of North Hempstead and Supervisor Judi Bosworth.

On behalf of the entire Pride in Port committee, thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s 28th Annual Pride in Port celebration the best ever!
