Readers Write: Thanks for bipartisan support of Port improvements

The Island Now

On behalf of the officers and directors and as President of the Greater Port Washington Business Improvement District, I would like to extend a well deserved thank you and show of appreciation to Supervisor Judi Bosworth, Councilwoman Dina DeGiorgio and the rest of the Town Board for the improvements that have taken place and are still currently being undertaken on Port Washington’s Main Street.

Their bipartisan efforts and decisions are duly noted and have yielded an improved appearance of Port’s Business District.

Port Washington’s BID Board always works to provide residents with enhancements that make our district more attractive, festive, and inviting. Add the sidewalk and curb repairs as well as the repaving of upper Main Street that the Town of North Hempstead undertook as a capital improvement project, you now have an environment that we, as the BID Board, strive to achieve.

In addition to the town’s provided improvements, a small committee of members of the BID Board had walked and inspected portions of Main Street from Mackey Avenue to Third Avenue and sited areas that needed attention and repair. The Town of North Hempstead Sidewalk Department responded and is currently starting the process of repairing sections of the sidewalk.

All these decisions made by our Town Of North Hempstead representatives to improve our Port Washington should not go unnoticed. As a life-long resident of Port Washington and a local Main Street merchant for 25 years, I’ve been very aware of these needed upgrades and repairs and the Town came through for its residents.
