Readers Write: In support of social justice for all

The Island Now

On Jan. 15, Long Island Together co-produced …and Social Justice for All with Landmark on Main Street.

As part of the Conversations on Main Street series, LIT wishes to thank the Angela and Scott Jaggar Foundation and all the staff at Landmark for their wonderful support.

…and Social Justice for All was an event to welcome all members of the community to enjoy a variety of entertainment, conversations with activist organizations and a selection of ethnic foods.  Thanks to all of you who came and shared in this special day. An event like this doesn’t happen without a lot of help.

We are grateful to the organizations which shared their time, information, and expertise:

Bend the Arc, Grassroots Environmental Education, Erase Racism, Long Island Transgender Advocacy Coalition, Michael Mandel (Immigration Law), Parent Leadership Initiative, Planned Parenthood, Port Washington Advocates for Public Education, Port Washington Public Library, SEPTA (Special Education PTA).

Our fabulous entertainment included the Stage the Change Players (who also emceed the event), Hip Hop Artist Farbeon Saucedo, Percussionist and Storyteller Napoleon Revels-Bey, Yoyo specialist Aiai Jiao, Beijing Opera folk artist Aaron Chau, and members of the Northern Wushu Kung Fu Institute.

Food donations came in abundance!  Please thank these eateries and show your gratitude by supporting their establishments: Ayhan’s Mediterranean Marketplace, Bareburger, Bonsai, Coffeed, Dunkin Donuts, Frank’s Pizza, Let There Be Bagels, Yamaguchi, and Yummy Gyro.

And thanks to all the LIT families that donated food as well.

There were many others who helped with rides, photography, housing the entertainers, graphic design, food pickup and so much more.  We certainly don’t want to leave anyone out so we thank you all.

Long Island Together is a growing community of progressives seeking to affirm diversity and protect vulnerable communities through interconnected activism.

With much gratitude to the Port Washington Community,
