Readers Write: Support Beth Horn for library trustee

The Island Now

I am writing this letter to urge all Port Washington voters to support Beth Horn in the upcoming Port Washington Library Board of Trustees election on Tuesday, April 9.

I have known Beth for over twenty years and am humbled and honored to call her my friend.  She is brilliant, passionate, dedicated, patient, and thoughtful. She’s also an excellent active listener and is superlatively devoted to making the world around her the best and most beautiful it can possibly be.

Beth is a true class act who humbly leads by example.  She diligently works at whatever she puts her mind to, always striving for excellence, and in turn inspires those around her to be their best selves too.  How lucky Port Washington is to have her!

Beth’s passion to make our community the finest it can be is simply contagious and I stand in awe of her many accomplishments.

Beth has a long history of successful leadership.  Her professional career and volunteer service focus on enriching people’s lives and building a strong community. Her early career spanned the cultural arts, including numerous Broadway productions, documentary and cultural programming for PBS, and communications for the Museum of Modern Art.

Having served as an event producer, development director, and communications director for several Port Washington-based organizations, Beth is now the Executive Director of the Sands Point Preserve Conservancy, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization; in this role, she is responsible for the 216-acre Nassau County-owned public park featuring four historic mansions and year-round cultural, educational, and horticultural programs, serving the entire Port Washington community.

A Duke University graduate, Beth holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Columbia University, and she studied 20th-Century British Literature at Oxford University in England

In 2014, Beth produced the PWPL’s World Festival, which celebrated the unique traditions of 35 countries. The festival included an international art exhibition and featured special programming created by the Library’s staff for children, teens, and adults

Beth supports numerous nonprofit organizations that serve the community, and, through her work for the Sands Point Preserve Conservancy, she develops collaborative partnerships for innovative programs and services for the community.  She’d be a great asset to PWPL Board!

Beth and her husband David have resided in Port Washington for 23 years; they’ve raised two amazing sons, whom I absolutely adore.  I remember her sons Alex and Nick, along with my sons, being among the very first children to take the Great Library Card Adventure!

Beth’s can-do attitude coupled with her incredible work-ethic makes it very easy to whole-heartedly support Beth Horn for PWPL Trustee!
