After reading your article on July 19, “Suozzi visits border, blasts conditions,” I’d like to remind your readers of a few things.
Firstly, Rep. Tom Suozzi and his Problem Solvers Caucus (appropriately nicknamed the Child Abuse Caucus) don’t care about improving the conditions of refugees being held by Customs and Border Protection.
They had a chance to propose amendments to the recent emergency funding bill that would have protected these vulnerable individuals. Instead, they forced a vote on the original Senate version of the bill.
Suozzi says that his internal caucus votes are confidential and that he won’t reveal if he originally wanted to amend the bill or support the original. All we know is that he went along with what his caucus decided, allowing both adults and children in CBP custody to continue to be abused and neglected.
Suozzi’s defense of Reps. Ocasio-Cortez, Omar, Pressley and Tlaib in the face of Donald Trump’s bigoted attacks against them is also a smokescreen. Back on March 31, Suozzi attended a rally in Great Neck organized by members of Long Island’s far-right fringe, where he unapologetically participated in a public flogging of these women.
Four months later, he thinks the attacks against them are “racist and un-American” and has the gall to crown himself “an honorary member of the squad”?
Suozzi thinks he can be everything to every voter, left, right and center. He has no spine and no core beliefs. It’s time Democratic voters in Suozzi’s district stop settling for his special brand of complicity and hand the reins to someone who will take the responsibilities of a U.S. representative seriously.
