Readers Write: Stop delay for organic eatery

The Island Now

have been a lifelong resident of the greater Roslyn area, and I want to add my name in wholehearted support of Full House Organic.
This market sounds like a perfect addition to the retail offerings in the heart of Roslyn.
With the new construction that is taking place, the village will soon be home to new residents.
It is already a vibrant destination for people who want to dine out or bring home food prepared by the many restaurants currently operating in town.
The Village of Roslyn Board of Trustees granted permission to this new business when it reviewed its renovation plans of what had been a rundown commercial/residential site.
After making a tremendous investment to improve the property so that it is suited to its new purpose, the village informed the owners that they could not cook on premises.
Then when the Raczs rented another site to provide the cooked organic food that was part of the business plan they were told they couldn’t sell cooked food at the Roosevelt Avenue location.
Why are Mayor Durkin and his board giving this business such a hard time?
It’s almost a year that they seemingly embraced the Raczs project.
Maybe there is more here than meets the eye.
The village board knew the proposed use of the property when they approved it.
Now that hundreds of thousands of dollars have been invested to upgrade it they are taking issue with what is being sold? It’s food!
What possible objection can there be to this new organic market?
Why is there an issue with this business selling cooked food and not the other establishments that sell prepared food from the many restaurants in town?
I find this very curious and very upsetting.
By providing something new and needed in the village, everyone will win — the village, the residents and visitors to the town who will all benefit when Full House Organic opens and provides a permanent organic food option in Roslyn.
Enough delay already!
