Readers Write: Stellato’s campaign tactics unfair to park employees

The Island Now

Usually when election results are in I congratulate the winner. It is the polite thing to do. However, Tuesday’s Park District election, I did not.

One of Tina Stellato’s remarks at the November debate was that commissioner Nachmanoff did not have much respect for park employees.

The other beauty of the job is that there are two other commissioners that could assist for anything that she may not know.

First lesson is that they do care about park employees as she should know having worked for the district for 17 years.

Without our wonderful workers we would not have a park district that we have today.

Yet what Stellato did on Nov. 12, while not illegal, was certainly without any consideration for park employees.

To bombard the park office at the 11th hour with hundreds of absentee ballots, which could have been submitted before the deadline, put the office workers’ under a tremendous amount of stress, not to mention the election inspectors who work way past midnight.

I suspect that voters filling out absentee ballots application form couldn’t have read part two very carefully and understand that making a false statement is guilty of a misdemeanor.

I find it hard to believe that so many hundreds of voters could be, physically disabled, in jail, absent from the district, etc., especially when a very large number came from district No. 1.

I truly hope that Stellato will follow the commitments that she made at the debate.

Great Neck parks stand for open green space, trees, sports, children enjoying their childhood, seniors relaxing, concerts, recreation activities for all.

Politics are for Washington, not our parks.
