Readers Write: Scott Fairgrieve for Mineola Village Justice

The Island Now
I am writing to endorse longtime Nassau County District Court Judge Scott Fairgrieve for Mineola Village Justice and urge his election on March 18, 2020.
I have known Scott for over 40 years, first as a political opponent and now as a friend. I first ran for public office against Scott for Village Trustee. He beat me badly. Then I got to know him through the Country Seat Kiwanis Club. Over the years he impressed me with his sincerity and devotion.
Through his vast array of friends, he has almost single-handedly supplied interesting speakers every Monday morning at Kiwanis meetings, educating the members about a vast array of community concerns
As a Nassau County District Court Judge, Scott distinguished himself for the past 20 years. Mineola has supported him again and again.
I got to know Scott’s work as a judge while I was at the Nassau County Probation Department. As a Probation officer and later as Director of Probation, I got to observe him first hand. His reputation was first-class. He had the appropriate judicial temperament and was respected by prosecutors, defense attorneys, probation officers, and the Court staff.
The probation officers submit detailed reports and recommendations prior to sentencing. Judge Fairgrieve always paid close attention to these reports and even if he disagreed with the recommendation he respected the process and the information the report’s supplied. His decision was always fair to both defendants and the public he has served.
The Village Justice is and should be a non-political position. That is why Judge Fairgrieve is not running as a representative of one of the traditional Mineola political parties. Instead, he is running as an independent, reflecting his integrity and commitment to Mineola.
I hope that all Mineola residents will seize upon this opportunity to have a Village Justice with Judge Scott Fairgrieve’s amazing record of experience and integrity. Don’t forget to vote on March 18, 2020.
