Readers Write: Questionable endorsements

The Island Now

During the recent run for Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas’ opponent was endorsed primarily by special interests here in Nassau County.

These special interests would have had a direct effect on Nassau County.

To the best of my knowledge we presently have a clean DA.

Now, in the present race for state Senate, Elaine Phillips has the endorsement of every Tom, Dick and Harry of special interest that would directly negatively affect Nassau County.

I don’t recall having come across anything negative as fact about Adam Haber.

This week my mail box was stuffed with vile things about him.

The interests of these mailings are from outside Nassau County and have no direct bearing on same.

In the latest news, the GOP is set to begin smearing Tom Suozzi.

The only seeming legitimate things I have come across is that Mr. Suozzi raised taxes and gave himself a raise.

Whether he stands by what he did or sees it as a mistake, I can’t say.

We will see what develops.

Again to the Long Island Rail Road third track: The wording has always been “From Floral Park to Hicksville.”

One can read that as not including those two stations.

I visited the Floral Park Station and it has four tracks.

Going East, two go to the Hempstead line. The four tracks continue West on through the Bellerose Station.

West of Bellerose, tracks go South to Belmont Racetrack and back.

The Hicksville station has four tracks.

Directly East two go to the Port Jefferson line the other two continue to Bethpage where they divide and end at the North and South forks.

The Floral Park and Hicksville stations should be designated as untouchable landmarks.

They are old but so well done.

For today I only wish to add that surely there are means already in place to switch from one track to the other between Hicksville and Floral Park if necessary.

There are other things that need to be done before the third rail is even considered.
