Readers Write: Put kids first with vote for Abramson-Brooks on PW BOE

The Island Now

am writing this letter to implore my fellow Port residents to vote Deborah Abramson Brooks to the Board of Education May 21. Deborah has had an extensive and impressive career as an education advocate. She has a thorough understanding of how the education system works, having served on multiple state and local task forces.

This combined with her dedication and love for our community is why she has my vote. I was first introduced to her advocacy on the PW Advocates for Public Education, where I was immediately impressed with her thorough understanding of childhood development.

She values a whole child education approach, encouraging the development of children academically, physically, socially and emotionally. As a first-time home buyer, I was impressed with the level of passion and advocacy she, and our fellow residents had towards our public schools and children. I believe she will fight for our kids to get the programs and funding they need to thrive, and act to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of our tax dollars.

It’s time to put our “kids and community first!”
