Readers Write: Marksheid is effective GN Plaza trustee

The Island Now

I am urging you all to vote on Sept. 15 to re-elect Pamela Marksheid as trustee of Great Neck Plaza.  I have lived in Great Neck for almost all my life and in the Plaza for over 30 years.  I have volunteered my time and effort to support different committees of the Village, including the Historic Preservation Commission, and currently I am serving on the Zoning Board of Appeals.  Therefore, I have first-hand knowledge of the dedication and hard work that both Ted Rosen and Pamela Marksheid put into making the Plaza a great place to live and work.  I also worked with Michael DeLuccia as a member of the Zoning Board where he is the chairperson.   He is dedicated and works hard to always be fair and reach a consensus on the issues presented.

There are many responsibilities that go into being an elected official, many of which are not easily known by the public.  There are countless meetings, including those between the other officials on the Peninsula, as well as attending Nassau County Officials meetings.  I know personally that Pam attends all of those so that she remains knowledgeable to what issues are important to our Village as well as to the other villages as well as Nassau County.

For years, I have attended numerous Board of Trustee meetings and have seen Michael in the audience as well.  I have found the openness at these meetings as well as the attention the trustees and mayor have towards the public to be outstanding.  Residents are never disrespected nor belittled.  Their comments are taken seriously and respectfully.  During these trying times the trustees, as well as the outgoing mayor, have been on top of the pandemic happening in this world.  They allowed and tried to help the local merchants with outdoor dining expansion, eliminated parking so that these restaurants were able to stay open.  They eliminated the charges for parking.  They stopped issuing tickets.  They worked with the residents and merchants.  They went over and beyond.

The experience that these candidates bring to Great Neck Plaza is important for our village to overcome Covid-19, to once again thrive and to present new ideas.  It will be a new beginning with Ted Rosen as mayor and Michael Delucia as trustee.

On a personal note, I know how dedicated Pam Marksheid is to serving as trustee as I served with her on the Historic Preservation Commission.  In addition, I was able to see how she transformed her co-op while serving as president of their Board of Directors.  I strongly recommend voting for Ted Rosen, Pamela Marksheid and Michael DeLuccia on Sept. 15, 2020.
