Readers Write: I was wrong, Mineola trustees right on park

The Island Now

Another summer ha come and gone here in Mineola and one of the most exciting aspects of the summer was the new Mineola Memorial Park.

To be fully transparent, I was one of the residents that was not whole-heartedly in support of the transformation of the park.

To say the least, my opinion has done a total 180-degree turn around. It is absolutely beautiful.

To take a step back, the construction crews were marvelous.

I walked by the park just about every day during construction.

To watch the crews take the time and effort to protect the sidewalks and curbs as they moved heavy machinery and equipment over them was tremendous.

Usually, workers want to do the job as quickly and easily as possible but I saw them put wooden planks down to cover the sidewalks and used as ramps to cover the curbs as the machinery and equipment was moved over them.

Kudos to the construction company .

Now, the programs that went on at the park this summer were top notch.  My family enjoyed many of the productions that were scheduled and hopefully, as time goes on , more and more will take place at that venue.

It is so nice to be able to enjoy our village with our family and neighbors at no additional cost.

As any homeowner knows, taxes are required to pay for the fundamental services that the village needs to provide but it is always wonderful to see our tax dollars being put to use to further the recreational and entertainment events that residents of all ages can enjoy.

Keep up the great work Mayor Strauss and the Board of Trustees:  improved services to the village, improved recreational and entertainment events, improved downtown, and thoughtful construction.

With all this going on, the village will continue to be the “gem “ that it is.
