Readers Write: ‘I feel your pain’ losing your pet

The Island Now

have just read a story in the Great Neck News by Jack Lipsky about his best pal a dog named DJ and was killed by a motorist.

At this time I would like to offer my condolences to Jack and his family for their loss.

My wife Eva and myself have a Jack Russel named Jack who is 11 years old and is also felt to us as a member of the family.

He gives us as much love as we give him if not even more.

He follows my wife wherever she goes and when she is out shopping he waits by the window until she gets home and he does the same until I get home from work.

When it comes to bedtime he follows us into the bedroom and jumps onto the bed and waits until it is time for me to take him out for a walk in the morning.

Jack has on an occasion gotten out of our house and unto our busy street and almost have gotten killed.

It is as though he has no fear of speedy cars and thinks it is a game.

I think at those times our good Lord must have been watching over him and us, knowing how much we love Jack.

It was a couple of years ago our neighbor who was 86 years old had a dog named Sandy, were out for a walk one rainy night and were killed by a speedy car trying to catch the green light at the end of the street were both killed.

Our dog Jack and Sandy would both be out at the same time and after Sandy’s death would look and stop and wait for Sandy to come out.

It seems to me that motorists need to be more careful for those on the road and to be aware and to concentrate on the road other than other devices they may have in their cars.

Now to Jack Lipsky let me say this — “Jack, I feel your pain.”
