Readers Write: Hope for a cure for Alzheimer’s disease

The Island Now

I would like to applaud Jennifer Wright’s article in the New York Post (Sunday, Nov. 25), titled ” A Beautiful Mind.”

She spoke about retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, who said she suffers from dementia and probably Alzheimer’s disease. This is a insidious disease that effects 5.5 million Americans, is the sixth cause of death in America, and will cost the United States $1 trillion per year by the year 2050.

Wright is right that President Trump should speak out more against Alzheimer’s being there is no cure for this disease and declare war and get bipartisan support. I myself have know quite a few people who are suffering and have died of this disease.

I’m going to be 70 years old next year and worry if I could come down with this disease. I have beat cancer, but I would not be able to beat Alzheimer’s.

My father in the 1970s suffered from the symptoms of the disease, although he finally died of cancer. It was brought out that those who have relatives who have had the disease could come down with disease themselves.

That is why I worry about coming down with disease myself. So, please President Trump use your voice and speak out for a cure for Alzheimer’s.
