Readers Write: Henry Zanetti has record of success, passion for Herricks

The Island Now

Members of the Herricks Community,

We would like to implore you to re-elect Henry Zanetti to the Herricks Board of Education.

We were lucky enough to meet Henry 13 years ago when his daughter started Center Street School.  Henry became an active asset to our community very quickly.

Over the years he has held many PTA positions on the elementary, middle school, high school and district level as well as positions with Herricks Boy Scouts as their treasurer and a Cub Scout leader.

He has helped out and supported the Herricks Association of Girl Scouts where his daughter was a troop member for nine years.  Henry is an avid supporter of the Herricks Music Program, having two children that are musicians.

Most importantly Henry was a constant presence in the audience of our Board of Education meeting for 10 years before he ran and was elected three years ago.  He spent 10 years learning, questioning, asking for clarity and understanding from the community level before running.

That is a perspective that only time and experience can bring.  His first 3 years on the Board were not easy ones.  He was part of numerous negotiations that have led to successful contracts with our various unions which in turn created a number of long-term savings for the district.

He has also served on the district policy committee with our administrators and lawyers that has revamped all of our board policies to clarify and update them to ensure compliance with state education laws.

Henry is very aware of the necessary and delicate balance between the taxpayer, school district and student that produces success for all.

On a personal level, Henry is a very fair and level headed person. He is always willing to ask the questions and not just go with the easy answer.

For those of you who don’t know him he is lucky to have an amazing and supportive family in his wife Kathy and two children, Raffaella and Michael.

Many of us in Herricks have a saying that someone who has a profound love and appreciation for our community and our school “bleed blue”, we can tell you Henry bleeds blue!  He is a true symbol of #HerricksStrong.

Please join us in re-electing him to the Herricks Board of Education.
