Readers Write: Glickman offers reasoned change for G.N. school board

The Island Now

I am Morgan Kronenberg, a proud product of Long Island’s north shore, having grown up mere minutes from the heart of Great Neck.

I am a Jewish communal development professional, of 20 years, some of which were based on Great Neck Road, and have proudly generated hundreds of millions of dollars in support of causes profoundly important to me.

Short of having different names, that introduction could have been written by Great Neck School Board candidate Michael Glickman, who I have looked to as a dear friend for 40 years.

Michael and I have a number of parallels in our lives – from our origins at Denton Avenue Elementary School, to our respective professional missions and journeys, where moving the needle in the interest our missions is paramount, as is recognizing that change, for the better, can find fruition when conviction and capacity come together.

Certainly, there have been opportunities and challenges unique to each of us. For instance, I have never saved one of the world’s foremost Holocaust Museums from the brink of financial despair, ensuring the survival of a vital light for the future of Holocaust remembrance and education.

Nor did I bolster the future of another conservatory of historical learning, driving a campaign to rid them of tens of millions of dollars of debt – something that has crippled myriad centers tasked with the vital challenge of safeguarding our history – so we, and those ahead of us, are not doomed to repeat it.  Michael has.

As a member of the Great Neck school board, Michael could have yet one more opportunity to safeguard something of incomparable importance – the future of Great Neck’s children.  Something tells me, those kids would hope he gets that chance.
