I have known Michael Glickman for over fifteen years and can honestly say that he is a remarkable, brilliant, talented and fearless young man who has strong principles, great energy and a generous heart. Read his bio and you cannot fail to be impressed with his accomplishments.
Michael grew up in the region and came to Great Neck with his wonderful wife, Sumi, to raise their family. That was a strong vote of confidence in this community and in its future.
His dedication to the community led him to my door at the Gold Coast Arts Center, where he enrolled his children in classes and eventually joined the board and was elected resident of the board.
During that time and especially during this terrible time of COVID-related challenges, Michael ably led the arts center through some very tough financial and policy decisions; used his abundant business connections and not for profit experience to help me and my staff and faculty get the kind of advice we needed to navigate the world of internet marketing, grant writing, and community outreach at a time when our online presence had been limited to our website.
All of our classes but a few; and all of our film offerings and other in-person programs are now available online and successfully providing cultural education to children, teens and adults.
I am personally indebted to Michael Glickman for his time, which he has donated so freely, and his experience, which has proven invaluable to us.
With great humility, he has decided to run for the Great Neck School Board, a decision that should be applauded, no matter the outcome, because it is a courageous one.
He has taken on a respected longtime community leader and is urging the residents of this community to open the way for him to join the school board in order to explore and secure even more enriched educational opportunities for students; increased and more transparent dialogue with parents and other community leaders; and a firm and experienced business hand to help manage a budget of $250M plus.
As a parent of three children in Great Neck Schools, he is all too aware of the challenges that technology, at-home virtual learning, and educators face in this new era; what post-Covid education will look like eventually is something that needs to be examined and dealt with thoughtfully and creatively.
I believe that Michael Glickman is the man to meet all these challenges as he works with the members of the Board of Education and as a longtime private citizen of Great Neck, I hope he gets the chance.
