Readers Write: Geisler has the right stuff for Port BOE board

The Island Now

It is with great enthusiasm I am writing this letter to attest to the character of Jonathan Geisler and why he would be such a terrific person to be on the Port Washington Board of Education.

I am a retired special education teacher and a strong UFT union activist and know that Jonathan has always shown sensitivity and humanity not only for how important education is to children but also how important the role of teachers is to help children achieve their potential.

I know that as Jonathan grew under the tutelage of his mother, who was a public school art teacher, he incorporated the lessons of appreciating the important role that teachers can play in children’s lives. Now, as an adult, he often demonstrates compassion for bringing educational opportunities to children who are less fortunate and has always appreciated the diversity and richness that makes our world a better place.

He is humble, even though he has had a brilliant career and is recognized in his field as one of the leading paleontologists in North America. He will be approachable and will be a person of character, whose only desire in running for trustee is to advance education — nothing else.

He will be honest and will work towards giving the children and teachers the best opportunity to be heard and be represented.
