Readers Write: Flower Hill thanks village, officials for storm recovery

The Island Now

Over the past two weeks our community has once again come together to overcome our latest challenge: recovery from Tropical Storm Isaias. I want to take this opportunity to thank several groups of people who were instrumental in helping the Village of Flower Hill. First, thanks to our Village residents for their patience and for working cooperatively with Village staff so we could help advocate for them. We did not expect to turn our Village Hall into a customer service center to facilitate communication with our power company, but this is what you do in an emergency. You adapt and provide the support your community needs. I want to especially thank our staff who continued to support our residents, beyond normal work hours, even as they wrestled with their own power outages and family needs.

I cannot express how grateful I am to my surrounding mayors who came together to share information, experience, and advocate for all of our communities in unison. I would also like to thank Congressman Suozzi, state Senator Kaplan, Nassau County Executive Curran, Presiding Officer Nicolello, Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton, Town Supervisor Bosworth, and Town Councilwoman Dalimonte and their staff as well for their support and advocacy for Flower Hill during this crisis.

I look forward to working with all of them again as we move to the next steps of improving the electric grid and the system to restore power post storm response.
