Readers Write: Experience, performance make O’Brien right pick

The Island Now

My name is Oleg Rybalko, and I live in Manhasset since 2008.
Next week we are going to have Manhasset-Lakeville Commissioner’s Election, and I am voting to re-elect Donald O’Brien as commissioner of the Manhasset-Lakeville Water and fire districts based on his job performance.
He has clearly demonstrated that his private sector career background in finance and management has been a real asset to his position as commissioner.
He originally campaigned on the importance of having a member of the board with his experience.
O’Brien has been able to transfer his skills to the districts.
He has learned the water supply business by attending educational classes and being active in industry associations.
He has done the same regarding the fire department.
He is a very active member in fire department organizations with members from other fire districts.
These organizations provide education and a forum for all members to work together in the best interest of their respective residents.
The application of his financial background has resulted in budgets that are under the tax cap.
He has stressed the importance of making annual budget investments to replace aging infrastructure in the water district and has reduced bond debt significantly.
He has worked with the fire district supervisor to provide the fire department with fire apparatus, equipment, and training so the all-volunteer fire department can serve our residents with fire protection and ambulance services.
The fire district will be debt free in 2017.
It is refreshing to have such a well-qualified person on the board.
Commissioner O’Brien has delivered on his campaign promises.
He deserves to be re-elected.
Please join me by taking the time to vote at your Manhasset-Lakeville Firehouse on Tuesday, Dec. 13 between 12 p.m. and 9 p.m.
