Readers Write: D’Urso wrongly backs bill mandating flu shots for infants

The Island Now

State Assemblyman Anthony D’Urso supports Assembly Bill 1240, which mandates the flu shot for infants as young as two months old who go to daycare so their parents can work. His opponent, Byron Divins, does not support this bill.

You can find Assembly Bill 1230 here: https://nyassembly.gov/leg/?bn=A01230&term=2017.

According to the CDC, since 2004, the average rate of effective is 40 percent, ranging from 10 percent (2004) to 60 percent (2010).

This isn’t much better than a placebo, which has an average effectiveness of 32 percent. (https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/placebo-are-you-there/)

Therefore, this medical decision should be made by parents, not the government. This is overreach.

Divins says, “I oppose this bill. The government should not force children to get the flu shot, substituting its judgment for a parent’s judgment.”

Evidently, many of D’Urso’s 213 fellow legislators in both the New York State Senate and Assembly agree with Divins. Only five support this bill.

Please consider Byron Divins for your vote or encourage D’Urso to change his position and trust parents to act in the best interest of their own children.
