Readers Write: Board of Election lapses on personal ID

The Island Now

I received, unsolicited, a New York State Absentee Ballot Application in the U.S. mail.
Terrific! I don’t have to go online to request a ballot.

The application had some information preprinted.  There was my name and address, my date of birth … WAIT, my date of birth, out in the open for all to see.  Is the North Hempstead Democratic Committee in cahoots with the con men and fraudster community?

The mailing was a two-leaf thing with the actual application being page four, the back of the mailer like the back of a postcard.  Page three contained mailing information to the Nassau County Board of Elections.

If they cared about personal security, all they had to do was reverse the order of page three and four.  While it still would be “insecure,” at least it would be inside the fold and not visible to any casual observer.

Somebody wasn’t thinking and dropped the ball.
