Raising awareness at 6th Kids Safety Day

The Island Now

In order to reinforce child safety awareness and education, the sixth annual North Hempstead Kids Safety Day will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 25. The annual Kids Safety Day event focuses on educating kids about fire safety, beach and pool safety, the proper way to cross the street, the best way to ride a bike, tips on how to safely use the Internet, what to do when approached by a stranger and much more.

“This event makes safety education and awareness both pertinent and enjoyable,” said North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman. “With a collaborative effort between local government, law enforcement and the community, we are able to provide a hands-on educational experience for our children.”

Children participating in the event will maneuver through a series of safety stations and public safety zones from the Nassau Police Department. There will be giveaways and the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department will be on hand with a fire truck and smokehouse that children will have the opportunity to walk through and explore. The free event also features face painting, and arts and crafts.

Town Councilwoman Anna Kaplan, who is co-hosting the event, said, “Nothing is more important than our children’s safety. This event goes a long way to ensuring our children are educated on ways to remain safe in public and in their own homes.”

The event will take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Manhasset’s Mary Jane Davies Park. For more information, or if you have any questions, please call 311.
